40,00 € tax incl.

In the early eighteenth century, when Russia was going through a turbulent period of Peter the Great’s reforms, a tapestry manufactory was established in St. Petersburg, which laid the foundation for a new type of artistic production in Russia. Sinse a staff of qualified professionals was needed, weavers from the Gobelins Royal Manufactory were invited, who arrived in St. Petersburg from Paris in 1717.
The experience of work management, variety of products and apprentices sent by private individuals to study tapestry weaving largely contributed to the development of Russian carpet making in the eighteenth – nineteenth century, taking it to a higher professional level. The manufactory was closed down in the mid-nineteenth century.
