The catalogue is published to accompany the "Carl Fabergé and Masters of Stone Сarving. Russian Gems" exhibition. This exhibition is devoted to the national development of the stone cutting art and its most distinguished craftsmen: jewelers to the Russian Imperial Court, C. Faberge and A. Sumin, their contemporary, a connoisseur of gems and a poet of Ural, A. Denisov-Uralsky, as well as other eminent jewellers and stone carvers of the 18th–20th centuries from Jeremy Pauzié to Louis Cartier, whose art in the early years of the 20th century bears the influence of the Russian stone-carving school. The exhibition displays works of the Imperial Lapidary Factories of Yekateringburg, Peterhof, Kolyvan, the firm of Verfel and the Ural workshops. The last section is devoted to workmasters and artists of 1920s–1970s, who like G. Zverev and V. Konovalenko continued and revived the best artistic traditions of the past. The exhibition features more than 400 jewellery pieces made from precious and semiprecious stones and brings together the multicolored and vibrant compilation of art works from the leading museums of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, as well as from the Cartier Collection (Geneva) and other private collections. Many objects will be displayed in Moscow for the first time. Some of them also appear in print for the first time.
